Teaching Philosophy:

Everyone has the capability to create.

In my classroom, I value celebrating the inherent drive to create within each individual. I believe that everyone is an artist who possesses a unique voice and perspective waiting to be expressed through art. My teaching is rooted in the idea that artistic expression is a universal language that transcends boundaries and allows individuals to communicate their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where students feel empowered to explore their creative potential without judgment. By supporting a sense of curiosity, experimentation, and self-discovery, I aim to unlock the artistic spirit within each student, guiding them on a journey of self-expression and personal growth.

One size does NOT fit all.

In rejecting the idea of one-size-fits-all in art education, I am deeply committed to steering clear of cookie-cutter, mass-produced projects in my classroom. Artistic expression is deeply personal, and I believe that standardized assignments can muddle the authenticity and diversity of voices in the artistic realm. Instead, I embrace a teaching approach that values individuality, differential learning, and encourages students to explore their own creative paths. By offering open-ended choice-based projects and assignments that allow for interpretation and personalization, I aim to support the genuine connections between the artist and their work. This approach not only fosters a sense of ownership and pride in the artistic process, but also emphasizes the importance of embracing imperfections as crucial part of the creative journey. In doing so, I hope to empower my students to break free from the constraints of conformity and discover the joy of expressing their unique artistic voices.

 Zero room for hate!

In my art classroom, there is absolutely no room and no tolerance for hate and insensitivity. I firmly believe that art has the power to transcend differences, create connections, and promote positive change. Therefore, I work to create a space where students feel safe to express themselves authentically without fear of judgment or discrimination. By promoting open-mindedness, and embracing diversity, I aim to instill in my students a sense of social responsibility and awareness. In this inclusive atmosphere, every individual's unique background and perspective are valued and heard, creating a rich tapestry of experiences that enriches the artistic community we are building together. This commitment to respect and acceptance is not only fundamental to the artistic process, but also serves as a powerful lesson that extends far beyond the studio.

How these values will be implemented:

Implementing these ideas would always be start by putting them at the forefront of my teaching. To support the idea that every student is an artist with a voice to be shared, I first start by creating a safe and inclusive space where students feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of judgment. Open communication would be encouraged, fostering a supportive community where students can share their thoughts and ideas freely. In order to reject the idea of cookie cutter- mass produced projects being implemented in my classroom, choice based projects will be introduced instead. Students will be taught an idea or technical skill, and be supported in their creative endeavors by being able to explore their unique perspectives and styles. Individualized feedback and guidance would be provided to nurture their artistic growth and confidence. To create a safe environment where students feel free of judgement and hate, I believe love and community should be supported within the classroom culture. Through daily check-ins, class discussion, and constructive critiques, all students will be able to share their ideas and feelings without fear of judgement by their peers. Any instances of disrespect or insensitivity would be addressed promptly, emphasizing the importance of creating a positive and respectful environment.
